Leigh Dansby, a 7th grade English teacher at Crowley Middle School (CMS), has been selected as the Crowley ISD Heartbeat Team Award winner for February.  In her second year teaching at CMS, Ms. Dansby’s students respond positively to her style and are growing and learning every day.

Students in Ms. Dansby’s class said she holds them accountable and makes learning fun. “She loves us,” they said.

Ms. Dansby’s dedication is making a strong impact on the entire CMS campus. Within the English/Language Arts department, she takes on leadership roles during long-range planning, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and academic camps. Beyond these activities, she can always be counted on for school-wide events and professional development. She's also an active member of her campus AVID site team and is a strong supporter for AVID in CISD.

“She is a true team player,” Principal Omarian Brown said.

New teachers at CMS have the opportunity to learn from Ms. Dansby’s teaching methods. This school year, she presented at the campus’ New Teacher University and opens her classroom for observations. “Everyone that observes her is shocked to learn that this is only her second year at CMS,” one educator said.

When she’s not tutoring students after school, Ms. Dansby sponsors the yearbook and stays late to meet with students, photograph school events, and edit the materials.

Ms. Dansby also helped coordinate College Week at CMS to promote higher education. She served as the MC for the pep rally and invited organizations from her college alma mater to participate.

“We’re so proud that Ms. Dansby is part of our CMS team,” one employee said. “Her dedication makes a strong impact on our entire campus.”

The Heartbeat Team Award is sponsored in part by Crowley ISD community partners EECU and Inspire Salon/Spa. Ms. Dansby received a $50 Visa gift card courtesy of EECU and a $50 spa gift card courtesy of Inspire Salon/Spa.

Leigh Dansby will be recognized at the Crowley ISD Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday, February 25.
