Closing the achievement gap, recruiting and retaining the highest quality teachers and strengthening parent and community partnerships are among Dr. La Tonya Woodson-Mayfield’s goals as a Crowley ISD trustee.
“There’s not much these students can’t do,” Mayfield said. “With the proper teaching and educational resources, engagement at home, and applied learning outside of school, these children can soar.”
She wants to see CISD become the district of choice for families moving to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex area, as well as for those families within the district who have not experienced CISD’s incredible programs. For everything the district offers, she’s excited about CISD’s academic achievements and industry-leading programs.
“The communities within our district play a vital role in our continued success, and they want to see our schools and our students, in particular, thrive,” she said. “They are energized by the growth of the district and the innovation within our programs, and they are often amazed by our progress. I hear those sentiments repeatedly from inside and outside the district. I’m so proud of all of us.”
She loves seeing the district’s collaboration with parents and the faith-based and business communities and believes the multifaceted partnership is vital for the district’s success.
“Everyone is a stakeholder and has a different purpose but, ultimately, the goal is that each student is successful, and everyone is contributing to that purpose,” she said.
Mayfield has over 25 years of experience in Human Resources, primarily leading programs that attract high-caliber talent, increase employee and community engagement as well as foster a workplace culture of inclusion and belonging. She has worked for several Fortune 500 companies and leading higher educational institutions.
A first-generation college student, she considers herself a lifelong learner who knows the value of education. Mayfield has a doctorate in Applied Technology, Performance Improvement from the University of North Texas, a master’s degree in Business Administration from Howard University, a master’s degree in Human Resource Management and Training from Amberton University and a bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication from Texas Christian University.
As a public servant, she serves on the boards, and is a member, of numerous institutions and organizations, and she is a 2020 graduate of Leadership Fort Worth, an organization that promotes diversity and inclusion in the city of Fort Worth and surrounding communities.
Mayfield, a published author, is also a devoted wife and mother of two children — both Crowley ISD graduates, with one being a college graduate and the other a college student.
Fun Fact: Mayfield, who has long admired Oprah Winfrey, is an aspiring talk show host and she finally got to meet Oprah in 2025. Surviving breast cancer over a decade ago, she said, helped her feel like she can do anything.
