Benchmark Testing

STAAR-aligned benchmark assessments are tests given during the school year to measure student progress toward mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) assessed on the STAAR exam. These benchmarks help teachers determine how well students are learning grade-level or course content and identify areas where additional instruction or support may be needed. Benchmark assessments are aligned to STAAR expectations but are not the official STAAR test.
