TELPAS

All EB (Emergent Bilingual) students in kindergarten through grade 12 enrolled in Texas public schools or open-enrollment charter schools are required to participate in TELPAS. EB students are required to be assessed annually with an English language proficiency assessment until they meet EB reclassification criteria.

Students prepare for TELPAS through daily classroom instruction that supports English language development. Because TELPAS measures language growth over time, there is no need for test-specific studying. Students can practice on IXL. Families can support students by encouraging regular school attendance, participation in class, reading at home, and practicing English through everyday conversations and activities. Yes, parents will receive a TELPAS report that explains how their child performed in each language domain. Families may also contact their child’s teacher or campus staff with questions about TELPAS results and what they mean for their child’s language development.
