Dual Credit

Dual Credit means that students can take a college class and  earn credit from both Crowley ISD and the partner institution.  Most of our dual credit courses  are taught by Crowley ISD embedded instructors, meaning that they are high school teachers with the necessary education requirements to be credentialed to teach the course for a college.
There are two types of dual credit courses:

  • Core Dual Credit: These are course that any students can take as long as they meet the prerequisites set by the college.  These courses count toward the common core and are transferable to any state university as long as student earn a C or above.
  • CTE Dual Credit: These courses are part of a dual credit CTE Program of Study.

Most core dual credit courses require that students pass the TSIA2 before they can be enrolled.

  • TSIA2: Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a way for students to prove academic readiness for college courses. There are two sections – Math and English.  Students must score at least a 950 (or a 6 on the diagnostic section) to qualify in math.  Student must score at least a 945 (or a 5 on the diagnostic section) on the multiple choice section and a 5 on the essay to qualify in English.

Before deciding to enter the dual enrollment program parents should discuss with their student the following:

  • Is the student self-motivated? Dual enrollment courses do not have the same degree of oversight as a high school course.
  • Is the student responsible? This attribute is especially important for students opting to take online courses.

Does the student have excellent attendance? College courses move very quickly, so it is imperative for students to have good attendance.  If students have to miss class for any reason (extracurricular or otherwise), they need to inform their instructor and clear the absence with them prior to the student missing class.  Students should avoid missing dual credit classes for unnecessary reasons (optional field trips, etc.)
