Hometown Pride: Gery and Katie Moreno

In a special Valentine’s Day holiday edition of Hometown Pride, we take a look at Crowley ISD teachers Gery and Katie (Kohler) Moreno. Gery, who teaches fourth grade dual language at Deer Creek Elementary School, is a 2012 North Crowley High School graduate. He also attended Crowley Middle School and North Crowley 9th Grade. Katie teaches fourth grade at Sycamore Elementary School and graduated from NCHS in 2010. She started her journey in the district as a kindergarten student at Oakmont Elementary School before attending CMS and NCHS.

The couple, who have a young daughter who attends the Crowley ISD Child Development Center, first met at the end of the 2011-12 school year. Katie was back for the summer from Oklahoma State University and was visiting with NCHS AP Coordinator Angie Wilkinson when Gery came by her room to get help with some paperwork. From there they stayed in touch while Gery attended Tarleton State University and begun dating after Katie finished up her school work in Stillwater. The couple married on July 15, 2016.

While roaming the hallways of NCHS, Gery and Katie excelled in numerous clubs and activities as Gery was a member of the North Crowley football program as a defensive tackle, while thriving inside the classroom by taking several advanced math courses.

“Being a part of Crowley has allowed me to have a positive impact on the changing Crowley ISD community. I love the work that I do and the community I serve," said Gery, who is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.

Katie, who's mother Theresa also works in the district, was a member of NCHS Key Club and National Honor Society. She was also heavily involved with the Panther choir program, theatre department and several musical productions as a stage manager.

"Crowley ISD has a special place in my heart. I feel proud to be an educator in the district that helped me become the person I am today," said Katie.
