Trustees Adopt Frontline Workers Resolution

February 11, 2021

Crowley ISD Trustees approved a resolution declaring educators as frontline workers at a called meeting this week. The measure is in line with districts across the state asking Governor Abbott to pronounce all Texas educators as frontline workers so they may receive priority in obtaining early vaccinations against COVID-19.

Ashley McKay Teaching Abbott has frequently recognized Texas public school district employees as essential to the day-to-day operations of a school district and critical for the continuation of live, face-to-face instruction.

The resolution reads, in part, “whereas, the public schools of the state of Texas are dependent on dedicated school personnel…to conduct the day-to-day operations of our schools and ensure the mission goal of the efficient delivery of instruction.”

The Expert Vaccine Allocation Panel (EVAP) - created by the Dept. of State Health Services - recommends vaccine allocation decisions. That group was charged with identifying the frontline worker groups that should be vaccinated first to provide the most protection to vulnerable populations and critical state resources.

School nurses were the only group included in phase one for health care workers, in the second tier.
