What One College says about taking AP classes

GRADES & AP CLASSES CAN PAY OFF IN COLLEGE
Have you been wondering what your grades will mean for your future? Why work hard by taking Advanced Placement (AP) classes, International Baccalaureate (IB) or honors courses?

At Goshen College, we believe that the more you challenge yourself the more prepared you will be for your college experience. Not only will you be more prepared, but you will also receive advantages from taking AP classes or IB courses and maintaining a high grade point average. For example:

AP or IB can mean college credits
AP or IB can help augment your high school weighted GPA
They also demonstrate the strength of your high school curriculum when colleges are deciding on admission
They increase your chances of getting better scholarships.

We encourage you to take any opportunity you have to take AP or IB classes and do well on those as they will give you a great start to your college career.

    Texas College and Career
TCC is an online college and career planning resource site available at no cost to all Texas secondary students, parents, and educators with access to information
regarding college options, college preparation, college admissions, career research, and financial planning. The website, provided in English and Spanish, centralizes all the key planning elements of a student’s post-secondary success, including interactive planning tools and personal portfolio development targeted to grades 6-8 and 9-12, key milestone reminders, and communication tools that link student to counselor to parent.

    My College Dollars
A new free online program sponsored by Facebook, MTV, and College Board allows students to do personalized scholarship searches. The site also has information
about financial aid as well as a calendar to track deadlines. The site is www.mycollegedollars.com and one can use a Facebook account to sign in. The site does have commercials on the side, but the site is also free.

    Will I be accepted?
www.acceptly.com Is a good website that gauges your chances of getting into a school based on GPA as well as SAT/ACT scores. Remember, however, it does not consider "automatic admission" standards for Texas students (based on class rank) as well as letters of recommendation, extra-curricular activities, and volunteer work.

    SAT or ACT???

    Parents & Students,

A first step in preparing for college admission is taking an ACT or SAT test. Students often wonder which of these tests to choose, and many select to take both.
Crowley ISD is committed to helping students prepare for these admission exams by providing information about both exams and preparation courses before
    taking an exam.

What is the difference between the ACT and SAT?

    · The ACT is an achievement test, measuring what a student has learned in school. The SAT is more of an aptitude test, testing reasoning and verbal abilities.

    · The ACT has up to 5 components: English, Mathematics, Reading, Science, and an optional Writing Test. The SAT has only 3 components: Critical Reasoning,
Mathematics, and a required Writing Test. The colleges indicate whether a writing score is required.

    · The SAT has a correction for guessing. That is, they take off for wrong answers. The ACT is scored based on the number of correct answers with no penalty for guessing.

    · The ACT has an Interest Inventory that allows students to evaluate their interests in various career options.
