Lone Star Chef Competition

Description

Latin Fusion

Watch culinary students from the Bill R. Johnson Career & Tech Center compete in the second annual Lone Star Chef Competition for Crowley ISD. The grand prize is a spot in the regional competition scheduled for the spring, as well as seeing the winning recipe on high school menus in the district. This year’s theme is Latin Fusion, encouraging future chefs to build a flavor profile.

The teams of 2-3 students will get 30 minutes to craft a dish that meets the strict nutritional guidelines set by the National School Lunch Program. In addition, three mystery ingredients will be introduced to shake up the competition. Teams will be judged by a panel of local celebrities on presentation, flavor, use of secret ingredients and other criteria.

“The competition helps students see that nutritious food can also be delicious,” says Rick Ward, General Manager for Aramark at Crowley ISD. “Plus, students learn how to cook in front of a crowd and present their winning dishes to a panel of judges. This is a great learning experience for future endeavors, whether personally or professionally, and we are excited to be a part of that!”

The competition kicks off at 1 p.m. in the cafeteria.
