Crowley ISD Dress Code Philosophy 

Crowley ISD believes students should dress in a manner appropriate for the learning environment. The purpose of the high school student dress code is to maintain safety, limit distractions, and to help guide and prepare students for career readiness expectations linked to professional workforce attire. Students are expected to be in dress code beginning the first day of school. Dress code violations shall be handled at the campus level. Dress Code(s) for specialized programs will be described in the individual program guidelines. 

GENERAL DRESS CODE GUIDELINES 

• In consideration of public health, Crowley ISD reserves the right to require masks, face coverings and/or face shields as part of the student dress code at any point throughout the school year. Any deviation and/or exceptions from the dress code that protects religious freedoms or mitigates health conditions may be submitted by the parent and approved by the campus principal 
• All student clothing, footwear and/or accessories worn and/or carried (accessories such as bags, purses, backpacks, lanyards, necklaces, phone cases etc.) shall be free of inappropriate, derogatory, obscene, and/or offensive language, symbols and/or images/illustrations. 
• Any accessories or other items that may be used as a weapon or has the potential to be a threat to safety are prohibited. Such items may include but are not limited to chains, brass knuckles, spikes etc. 
• If any student or parent needs clarification on if an item of dress is acceptable or unacceptable, they should first consult with the campus administration PRIOR to student wearing/bringing the item to school. 

Students are expected to wear proper undergarments underneath their clothing. 

IDENTIFICATION BADGES 

All high school students shall wear their Crowley ISD-issued student identification badges or temporary badges at all times while on a school campus, and may be required to wear and/or present when attending a school-related extracurricular activity. Badges must be visible to Crowley ISD employees at all times. Badges cannot be worn underneath clothing and cannot be carried in a student's pocket, backpack, bag, purse, etc. 

CLEAR BACKPACK POLICY 

• High school students may only carry see-through backpacks. 
• Students may carry a non-clear personal item pouch in their backpack.
• Non-clear bags, such as purses, athletic bags or instrument cases, are subject to search.  

SHIRTS 

• Shirts should cover the midriff, back, and the entire crown of the shoulder. 
• Shirt necklines should not extend more than 1 inch below the clavicle bone. 
• Shirt hems should touch the top of the waist of the bottoms even when in movement and/or if arms are extended. 
• Shirts that ARE NOT ALLOWED to be worn include:
  • No shirt straps that don’t cover the crown of the shoulder including, but not limited to, strapless, halter, spaghetti, racer-back etc. 
  • No shirts made out of see-through fabric including but not limited to sheer, mesh, fishnet etc. 
  • No hoods on shirts should be worn in the building. 
  • No “crop tops” or backless tops that expose the stomach and/or back 

BOTTOMS 

• The length of skirts/dresses/skorts/shorts must be no more than five inches above the middle of the knee. 
• Students shall wear bottoms at the waist showing no undergarments (no sagging, or low-rise bottoms that show any part of an undergarment) 
• No skin should show above the knees. 
• Any bottoms with holes that are above the knees, must have skin fully covered. Therefore, such styles of bottoms may ONLY be worn if worn with a garment underneath the bottoms to fully cover any skin visible through the holes above the knees. 
• Bottoms that ARE NOT ALLOWED to be worn include:
  • No spandex or similar form fitting fabric including but not limited to biker shorts, yoga pants, workout leggings. 
  • No Pajama bottoms or any bottoms intended for the purpose of sleepwear 

FOOTWEAR 

• All students must wear appropriate shoes at all times.. 
• All footwear must enclose the toes, secure the heel, and have a non-slip sole. 
• Footwear that ARE NOT ALLOWED to be worn include: 
  • No house shoes, slides, flip flops or any similar footwear 
  • No steel toe shoes/boots or shoes/boots with heel spurs or any form of spikes on any portion of the shoe 
  • No footwear with wheels or other attachments that changes the function of the footwear 

HEAD COVERINGS ARE PROHIBITED 

• Head coverings are NOT ALLOWED to be worn inside the building except for special occasions approved by the principal. 
• Head coverings that ARE NOT ALLOWED to be worn inside the building include:
  • No caps, hats, or similar head covering that have the potential to shield the face 
  • No bonnets, du-rags, scarfs or other head covering intended for the purpose of sleep wear or hair style protection. 
  • No attached or unattached hoods are allowed to be worn on the head 

Religious head coverings are allowed with submission of the appropriate request form to the campus principal and with the expected religious consistency of wearing a head covering.
